Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam is a professor in the Department of Statistics, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh. His main focus of research includes data mining and applied statistics. He joined in this department as a lecturer in 1999 just after the completion of his Masters degree from the same institution. In B.Sc. (Hons) exam, he was awarded the Chancellor Gold Medal for attaining the highest score among all students in the whole university. He pursued MS in statistics from McMaster University, Canada in 2002. Dr. Islam obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences, University of Western Ontario, Canada in 2008.
Dr. Islam taught several undergraduate and graduate level courses in the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He has experience working as c Methodologist at Statistics Canada, the principal federal statistical agency o Canada. He conducted numerous training programs and workshops om various fields of statistics including Sampling, Time Series Analysis, Data Mining etc.
Dr. Islam has been working on R software since 2001. To address the growing demand among researchers for a clear understanding of the fundamentall concepts of statistics, data analysis and the interpretation of results using the R software, Dr. Islam has authored the book "Sampling and Data Analysis Using R: Theory and Practice".
