...এতে রাজনীতি, ধর্মীয় গোড়ামি, শৈশব কাহিনী, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ক্যাম্পাস জীবন, মুক্তিযুদ্ধ সহ নানা বিষয় স্থান পেয়েছে । ... লেখকের ভাষায় 'কথাচ্ছলে বলার ভঙ্গিতে লেখা' হলেও এর রসবোধ এবং বর্ণনাশৈলী অসাধারণ । বইটির চুম্বক অংশগুলোর অন্যতম হলো 'আমার মায়ের বাঁধন' । যারা সীমিত আয়ের পরিবারে বড় হওয়ার স্মৃতিচারণে বিব্রত, তাদেরকে বলব এটি গোপনে পড়ে নিতে, অশ্রু-সজল চোখে লেখকের মাঝে হয়ত নিজেকে আবিষ্কার করবেন ।সন্তানের জন্য বিদুষী মাতার আত্মত্যাগ সার্বজনীন হলেও আশরাফ আহমেদের মাতার 'আরাধনা করে পাওয়া' সন্তানদের মানুষ করার জন্য হার-না-মানা সংগ্রাম কিংবা ক্রমাগত 'আত্মাহুতি' তাঁকে আরও ঐশ্বর্য্যময়ী করে তোলে । ... স্টিভ জবস-এর জীবন নিয়ে রচিত 'আব্দুল্লাহ জান্দালী: বিখ্যাত সন্তানের অখ্যাত পিতা' রচনাটি অত্যন্ত হৃদয়গ্রাহী । পিতৃস্নেহ বঞ্চিত স্টিভ জবস কি করে সহোদরার সন্ধান লাভ করে নিউ ইয়র্কে বাড়ি কেনেন শুধু তার সান্যিধ্য লাভের জন্য - অত্যন্ত মর্মস্পর্শী সে কাহিনী । এরপর 'ক্যাপ্টেন সাইগল: মুক্তিযোদ্ধা না পাকিস্তানি চর?' অংশে আছে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের নানা ঘটনা যা পড়লে পঞ্চাশোর্ধ অনেকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধ অবলোকন করবেন মানসচক্ষে ।মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বর্ণনা আরো আছে 'গুগলের পিঠে চড়ে' ঢাকা গমন অংশে । ... "মৃত্যুর পর আমার দেহ বা আত্মার কি হবে সে সম্পর্কে যে যাই বলুকনা কেন, কোনো প্রমান নেই বলে তার ওপর আমার ভরসা কম । তবে কিছু না করেই যদি বেহেশতে যাওয়া যায় সে সুযোগ ছাড়বো কেন ?" উদ্বৃতির প্রথম অংশে কারো দ্বিমত থাকলেও দ্বিতীয় অংশের সাথে গোত্র-ধর্ম নির্বিশেষে কারো আপত্তি থাকার কথা নয়, হলফ করে বলা যায় ! এবং এখানেই লেখকের সফলতা এবং গোটা বইতেই এরকম একটা হালকা রসিকতার সুরে পাঠকের মনের সাথে সংযোগ স্থাপন করেছেন । 'কবরের অন্ধকারে' পড়তে পড়তে উদাস মনে ভাববেন যেন নিজেই কোনো কবরস্থানের মধ্যে হাঁটছি । তিনি সমাপ্তি টেনেছেন শেখ মুজিবের 'অসমাপ্ত আত্মজীবনী' গ্রন্থটির পর্যালোচনা দিয়ে ।এটি পড়ার পর পাঠকের মূল বইটি সংগ্রহ করার আগ্রহ বাড়িযে দেবে নি:সন্দেহে । এক কথায় আশরাফ আহমেদের রূপকাশ্রয়ী ও প্রতীকী বর্ণনাশৈলী বই-টির মূল আকর্ষণ । ... বইটি পড়ার পর বিজ্ঞানী কিংবা লেখক আশরাফ আহমেদের পাশাপাশি ব্যক্তি আশরাফ আহমেদকে জানার আগ্রহ আপনার বাড়বে - গ্যারান্টি দিচ্ছি ।

There is a shortage of comic and satiric writing in Bangladesh. Ashraf Ahmed fills this gap to some extent by adding a book entitled Kalaschhole Bola (Artful Talks) to this category. This 175-page book is published by Aagamee Prakashani in February 2013. The author is a Bangladeshi scientist living in the USA and is used to writing on serious and heavy things of science in international journals. But he is not always occupied with all the serious and heavy things in life, rather glances around looking for things that cheers him up through lightening his heart. He likes to enjoy his life and fills up lives of Bengali-speaking people with his laughter the best medicine. Ashraf Ahmed began to distribute this medicine in the online media of North America. Twenty-six doses of this medicine have now been bottled up into a single book with that humorous title, whose literal translation into English is ‘the banana way of talking’. Bangla kala means both the banana and art. But putting a foot on the peel of a banana is not fun at all though it may draw laughter from the onlookers. Readers are therefore suggested for wandering with the author through the book with some precautionary measures against slipping and getting hurt while laughing along the way. They, however, won’t mind because it is the nature of a satiric writing to both hurt and please readers. Readers can still be assured that Mr Ashraf’s banana skin is not too slippery because he does not take a posture of a social reformer dealing with varieties of socio-political issues. His criticism is mainly against superstition in the cloak of religion. For instance, in Kaborer Ondhokare (In the Darkness of Grave) he satirises the custom in the Bangali Muslim society of not allowing women to visit the graves in which men are asleep.
