Mumtaz Renu: The Mystic Voice of Divine Love

Mumtaz Renu is a poet of remarkable vision and mystical depth whose writings seek to transcend the boundaries of language, culture, and faith. Born into an aristocratic Muslim family in Shariatpur, Bangladesh, she developed a deeply philosophical outlook from an early age. She pursued higher education in Philosophy at the University of Dhaka, earning her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in 1973.

Entirely self-taught as a creative writer, Mumtaz Renu has composed more than 1,300 poems in Bangla, drawing upon mythology, history, and the wisdom of ancient civilizations. Her literary journey later expanded into Urdu, Persian, Hindi, Arabic, French, and English, where she produced ghazals and lyrical works distinguished by their spiritual and philosophical themes.

Her magnum opus, Mere Soorat Yaar Aaina (My Face Is Your Mirror), is an approximately 800-page collection of Urdu ghazals. Many of its verses have been translated into Persian, and admirers of her work have described them as wazanee—poetry of profound substance and spiritual significance that reflects the classical traditions of Persian literature.

For Mumtaz Renu, poetry is more than an artistic expression; it is a bridge between the visible and the invisible, the temporal and the eternal. Her Persian ghazals often evoke the voices of prophets, saints, and spiritual seekers, fostering themes of interfaith harmony, peace, and the shared values of humanity. Her writings reflect her conviction that all languages are gifts from the Creator and that humanity, despite its diversity, shares one common origin and one common destiny.

In addition to her literary achievements, she is also a vocalist and composer. She has recorded 37 self-composed songs in Bangla, Urdu, and blended Bangla–Urdu, bringing her own poetry to life through melodies infused with devotion and spirituality.

In 1974, she began an enriching expatriate life alongside her husband, the distinguished Mr. Farookuzzaman, who served as an Advisor to the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). Together, they travelled extensively across the world, visiting the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kenya, Tanzania, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan. The diverse cultures, landscapes, and natural beauty she encountered became enduring sources of inspiration, finding expression in her poetry through vivid imagery and contemplative reflection.

Mumtaz Renu is the proud mother of three accomplished children: two sons, Arif and Adnan, and a daughter, Ambrin.

Through works such as Vortices of Thoughts and Rosy Whirlpool of Love, Mumtaz Renu continues to encourage readers to cultivate purity of mind, embrace truth, and seek inner peace through divine love.
