This book introduces the notions of system requirements and require- ments engineering. We give some examples of requirements and answer some 'frequently asked questions' about requirements and the requirements engineering process.
Requirements engineering is discussed in the context of a broader systems engineering process concerned with developing systems (software, hardware, processes) as a whole. Finally, we discuss the organi- sation of the requirements document, the definitive statement of the system requirements. We briefly describe standards in this area and present brief guidelines for writing clear and concise requirements.
