This book is dedicated to the fond memory of Dr Chandi Charan Chatterjee who had penned down the book in the Independence era of country in the year 1948. This book was widely read throughout the country and Southeast Asia and helped medical and paramedical students to have firm understanding of the functional aspects of human body. The integrated approach of incorporating anatomy, physiology and biochemistry in this single textbook was marveled by all academicians and was one of the salient features of the book of all the eleven editions up to 1984. Indeed Dr Chandi Charan Chatterjee, a faculty with Calcutta Medical College, was a teacher, orator, author and academician par excellence. Taking his noble work of enlightening medical students with intricate knowledge to physiology, I, as Editor, took the challenge of editing the eleventh edition to the prescribed existing syllabus and 12th edition of CC Chatterjee's Human Physiology was brought in print in the year 2018. As the Medical Council of India recommended the competency based curriculum, the 13th edition was designed to match the newly designed curriculum. As inputs flowed in from academicians across the country, the same were taken into consideration and the fourteenth edition of the book has been written as per the National Medical Commission, Competency Based Curriculum.
