Birth of Bangladesh as a separate physical and political entity on the map of the subcontinent is associated with memories of pain, bitter struggle and great sacrifices. The myth of one Pakistan founded in 1947 crumbled when brute military force was unleashed in the eastern wing of Pakistan on the night of March 25, 1971.
Bangladesh War of Liberation was indeed a unique episode of history. It was a war with many facets, distinctive in its nature, scope, spirit and totality. On one side was a large well-trained army and on the other were a helpless and unarmed people led by an odd assortment of ill armed soldiers and freedom fighters. For these people there were no alternatives but to win and the victory came at the end.
